Most Sought After Apartment Amenities
We conducted a survey on the top amenities tenants look for when renting an apartment. The results are listed below and only reflect statistics base on the following amenities: Parking, Storage, Indoor and Outdoor Pools, On Site Laundry, Clubhouses, On Site Management, Childrens Playground Areas, Fitness Centers, Gated Access, and Internet Services. Our research indicated that at least 8 out of 10 individuals are concerned with Internet services in their apartment complex. Of the remaining 20%, they believed that a wireless Internet Service Provider would be far more advantageous, others agreed that having a portable computing device with wifi connectivity, reduces the need for Internet services in their apartment homes.
About 85% of the surveyed audience preferred having both On-Site-Management and Maintenance available at their apartment complex. One individual added, "It provides the reassurance that someone is available to deal with an emergency". Others commented about the ease of access to maintenance and the ability to have work orders dealt with in a timely and suitable manner.
When asked about the issue of parking, about 65% agreed that parking spaces maybe a deciding factor on which apartment community was chosen. 20% claimed that parking was not a priority and could be overlooked, assuming the apartment complex offers other more important amenities. 15% was still undecided on the issue of parking.
Less than 10% was interested in having a clubhouse as part of the apartment community, which left an astounding 80% that did not care for such amenities. Another 10% were undecided about the issue discussed.
Laundry received a 65% "Must Have" with 35% ready to sacrifice having a laundry service connected to their apartment home. Of the 35% who are willing to sacrifice the laundry, 20% agreed that laundry service would need to be no more than 10 miles away from their apartment home.
When asked about storage spaces, only 35% believed that this would pose an issue for them. About 50% was comfortable with having storage elsewhere, while approximately 15% remained undecided. Comments include: "storage only becomes an issue if public storage is too far away from my apartment"...more comments address the increase in rental cost for storage space. These individuals believed that their money was better spent using public storage.
The pool received a high remarks with over 85% agreeing that the question about a pool will surface. However only 15% agreed an indoor pool may be a deal breaker when choosing an apartment complex. 15% claimed that having a pool was not a top priority on their list.
Fitness center and a childrens playground area both received about 45% of the surveyed audience who agreed that having these amenities would persuade their rental decision. 25% disagreed, leaving about 30% undecided. Comments included: "as long as there are nearby parks, having a kids play ground is not important", "I prefer to get a fitness club membership which probably have more equipment and services."
20% was interested in having a gated community and believe that this would be a top priority for them. About 70% oppose having gated access, leaving a mere 10% undecided.
It is worth noting that this survey did not include a sample of all cities which may skew the results. A more accurate survey would include all cities, all ethnic groups, a sample of all age groups, and other factors that affect the survey. Nevertheless, we believed that the survey would shed some light on some of the important amenities sought out by many renters.
